Rebuilding a decade-old learning platform from WordPress to a modern, scalable learning management system serving thousands of students.
The Project: CapstoneBD is one of Bangladesh's established online learning platforms, helping thousands of students prepare for academic and professional examinations through digital courses and learning resources. The original website was built over ten years ago using WordPress and WooCommerce and focused primarily on selling courses and publishing educational content.
The Problem: The client wanted to move beyond a simple course-selling website into a complete learning management platform with online examinations, quizzes, homework submissions, instructor evaluation tools, student dashboards, and secure online payments while preserving more than a decade of business data. Migrating years of customer accounts, purchased courses, orders, blog content, and other records from WordPress and WooCommerce into a Laravel application was one of the project's biggest technical challenges.
The Solution: Instead of extending the existing WordPress installation, we rebuilt the platform from the ground up using Laravel and MySQL. The new system delivers a modern learning experience while giving administrators and instructors significantly better tools for managing courses, evaluating students, and monitoring learning progress.
The Outcome: The result is a modern, secure, and scalable learning platform that supports thousands of students while giving teachers efficient tools for examinations, homework evaluation, and course management. The client successfully retained all historical data while significantly improving usability, performance, and overall user experience.

CapstoneBD is an online education platform that provides professional and academic courses for students across Bangladesh. Over the years, the platform has built a large community of learners through its digital courses and educational resources.

Business Challenge
The previous WordPress platform had served the business well for many years, but the company's goals had evolved considerably. The client wanted much more than an online course marketplace. They envisioned a complete digital learning environment where students could complete quizzes, participate in timed examinations, submit homework, receive instructor feedback, and track their learning progress from a single dashboard.
Supporting these workflows while maintaining secure online payments and preserving years of historical data required moving beyond the limitations of the existing platform. Perhaps the most technically demanding aspect of the project was ensuring complete compatibility between WordPress, WooCommerce, and the new Laravel application.

Our Discovery Process
Since the existing platform had been operating successfully for nearly a decade, rebuilding it wasn't simply about creating a new interface. We first analyzed how students interacted with courses, how instructors managed content, and how administrators maintained the platform. This helped us identify pain points within the previous system and prioritize improvements that would benefit every type of user.

Data Migration Challenges
Migrating data from WordPress and WooCommerce into Laravel was one of the most demanding phases of the project. Years of business operations meant preserving hundreds of courses, thousands of student accounts, order histories, purchased enrollments, and blog articles. Because WordPress and Laravel organize data using fundamentally different architectures, the migration required carefully mapping relationships between users, courses, transactions, and educational content.
The migration was completed successfully without disrupting the client’s business operations.
Performance and User Experience Improvements
Beyond introducing new functionality, the project focused heavily on improving the overall experience for both students and instructors. The redesigned interface offers cleaner navigation, improved course organization, faster workflows, and a more intuitive learning environment.
For instructors, the new grading workflow significantly reduces the effort required to evaluate written examinations and homework submissions. Students benefit from a streamlined dashboard that provides quick access to enrolled courses, assessments, homework, and learning progress.
Lessons Learned
Rebuilding an established platform is often more challenging than creating a new one from scratch. This project reinforced the importance of understanding existing business workflows before introducing new technology. Maintaining compatibility with historical data while redesigning nearly every aspect of the system required careful planning, extensive testing, and close collaboration with the client.
What We Would Do Differently Today
If we were starting the project today, we would consider incorporating AI-powered learning assistance, intelligent assessment recommendations, automated content categorization, and deeper learning analytics to provide an even more personalized educational experience. The strong Laravel foundation now makes those future enhancements much easier to implement.
